Itinerary:

Saturday, October 24: Arrive Porto, Portugal

  • On arrival, transfer to Hotel Maison Albar Monumental Palace, a luxury boutique hotel, in the center of Porto.

 

Located just a 3-minute walk from Paris Galleries Street, Maison Albar – Le Monumental Palace is situated in a renovated historic building from 1923, keeping the neo-Gothic façade and the unique atmosphere between Art Nouveau and Art Deco. The property features 63 bedrooms and 13 suites. The Hotel has a spa, indoor swimming pool, wellness centre, lounge and a library.

  •  7:00 PM: Welcome dinner at a local Porto Restaurant

Sunday, October 25: Discovering Porto

  • After breakfast, we will begin the day with a walking tour of beautiful Porto! Led by a local, Some stops include: The Stock Exchange Palace with its beautiful marble work, the Avenida dos Aliados, famous for its trendy shops and Ribeira, one of Porto's most popular neighborhoods. 

  • Lunch will be served at a local Porto Restaurant

  • After lunch, you will have free time to explore Porto at your leisure

Monday, October 26: The Douro Valley

  • After breakfast, we'll head out for a full day excursion to the Douro Valley, Portugal's most famous wine region.   

  • Upon arrival, we'll start with an easy 2 hour walking tour through the vineyards where you will have spectacular views of the surrounding hills and valleys (Make sure to have your camera ready!)

  • We'll then head over to a local winery where you'll get a private tour of the estate, partake in a wine tasting, and eat a fabulous lunch (paired with wine, of course!)

  • After lunch, we'll embark on a relaxing boat ride down the Douro River where you'll be able to marvel at the incredible scenery while we float past rolling hills and and beautiful vineyards

  • 6:30 PM: Arrival back into Porto at our hotel where the remainder of the evening is at your leisure

Tuesday, October 27: Depart for Lisbon, Discover Coimbra

  • After breakfast, we will board our private transportation and begin the 3 hour drive to Lisbon

  • Along the way, we will stop in and take private walking tour of the beautiful and charming city of Coimbra, which was the capital of Portugal during the Middle Ages.  Coimbra sits on the banks of the winding Mondego River and is filled with medieval architecture and grand university buildings (the University of Coimbra was founded in 1290 and is one of the oldest universities in Europe).  You'll see first hand what makes this city so special.  Lunch will be served at a local restaurant

  • 5:30 PM: Arrive Lisbon and check in to your luxury accommodations for the next 3 nights: The Vintage Hotel & Spa, located in the city center near the lively Avenida da Liberdade. It features a rooftop bar with panoramic views over the city, a heated indoor pool, a spa and a fitness center

  • 7:30 PM: Dinner at a local Lisbon Restaurant

Wednesday, October 28: Explore the Capital City of Lisbon

  • 9:00 AM: After breakfast, we will embark on a full day tour of the colorful city of Lisbon.  We'll explore the neighborhood of Belem, Portugal's maritime center during the 15th and 16th Centuries and where now many of Portugal's distinctive buildings and landmarks are located including the Jerónimos Monastery and the Tower of Belém

  • Afterwards we'll head over to the Time Out market for lunch.  Featuring 24 restaurants, 8 bars, a dozen shops, it is truly the best food Lisbon has to offer (Lunch will be at your own expense)

  • After lunch, we'll head towards historic downtown Lisbon, where we will make a walk through the trendy shopping & cultural district of Chiado, Rossio, Baixa and Liberdade’s Avenue.  We'll also visit the Moorish St. George Castle as well as several amazing view points from where one can get the best views overlooking the city

  • 5:00 PM: Return to the hotel

  • 8:00 PM: We'll embark on a musical and Portughese culinary experience and have dinner at a Fado restaurant

 

Fado is a performance genre incorporating music and poetry widely practiced by various communities in Lisbon. Fado songs are usually performed by a solo singer, male or female, traditionally accompanied by a wire-strung acoustic guitar and the Portuguese guitarra – a pear-shaped guitar with twelve wire strings, unique to Portugal

Thursday, October 29: Explore Sintra, Cabo da Roca & Cascais

  • After breakfast, we'll head to Sintra, a short drive from Lisbon and located right in the central western Portuguese coast.  We'll start with a visit to The National Palace of Queluz, home to King Pedro III in the late 1700's.  It is known for its stunning beauty and is a perfect example of the harmonious link between landscape and palatial architecture.  From here, we will head into the city center where you'll have some free time to explore and do some shopping!

  • Lunch will be served at a local Sintra restaurant

  • After lunch, we'll visit the Pena Palace and its lush gardens.  You will feel like you are in a fairy tale! Prepare to be dazzled by the colors, the views, the details and the history of this most iconic monument in Sintra

  • On the way back to our hotel in Lisbon, we will stop in Cabo da Roca which is, as described by the famous Portuguese poet Luís de Camões, the place "where the land ends and the sea begins". It is the westernmost point of mainland Portugal and continental Europe

  • Farewell Dinner will be served at a local Lisbon restaurant

Friday, October 30: Departure

  • After breakfast transfer to the airport for your flight home or join us on a post trip to Marrakech (details coming soon).  Transfers will be provided to all joining the post trip only
