The trip starts with one night in Rome and then we make our way to Abruzzo, where you'll discover medieval towns while cooking and eating your way through this undiscovered region of Italy.

Itinerary:

Saturday, May 2: Arrive Rome, Italy

  • On arrival, transfer to a beautiful and charming hotel located in the center of Rome

  • 7:00 PM:  Welcome dinner at a local Roman restaurant

Meals Included:  Dinner

Accommodations: Boutique hotel in Rome, Italy

Sunday, May 3: Depart for Abruzzo

  • After breakfast, we depart for the region of Abruzzo

 

  • Our journey of discovery starts with a scenic drive as we head into the Abruzzo region through the Gran Sasso mountain Range

 

  • Our first stop will be in the fascinating medieval town of Celano, dominated by its dramatically impressive Castello Piccolomini, a former Fortress-the foundations of which date back to the 12th Century.  Lunch will be served

 

  • After lunch, we'll set off for a small cheese factory in the heart of the region and see first-hand  the production of local Pecorino and Ricotta cheeses and your'll have a  chance to make your own fresh cheese or mozzarella

 

  • Afterwards, we'll head over to Hotel Villa Danilo, your accommodations for the next 4 nights, in Gamberale, in the Maiella National Park

 

  • Dinner will be served at Villa Danilo

Monday, May 4: Pasta & Sauces Masterclass, Olive Oil Tasting and Wine Tasting

  • After breakfast, it's time for a morning hands-on cooking Masterclass at Villa Danilo to learn the secrets of making fresh pasta, lasagna, tomato sauces and the very best of fine Abruzzese and Italian cuisine.  Additionally, you'll learn to make typical Italian desserts like Pizzelle.  Includes Lunch

 

  • After lunch we will head towards the nearby town of Bucchianco for an olive oil tasting experience at a beautifully restored 17th Century olive mill

 

  • Dinner will be at a local restaurant in Bucchianco where you will enjoy a delicious selection of local specialties and incredible wine

Tuesday, May 5: Truffle Hunt, Vegetarian Masterclass

  • After breakfast, you'll embark on an authentic truffle hunt with a local truffle hunter

 

  • Lunch will be back at Villa Danilo where you'll enjoy a meal with the truffles gathered from earlier in the day

 

  • Later in the afternoon we will head out to a  15th Century Watermill in the hilltop village of Roio Del Sangro, where you will partake in a hands-on veggie cooking class where you'll prepare vegetarian specialties using the best local ingredients. We'll then eat fruits of our labor for dinner

Wednesday, May 6: Sulmona, Wine Tasting and Pizza Masterclass

  • After breakfast, we head toward the classically beautiful Roman town of Sulmona, world renowned for being the birthplace of Ovid, the Latin Poet of Love, and also known for its confetti

 

  • We'll take a leisurely stroll through this historical village to visit its shops and its market in Sulmona’s busy Piazza Garibaldi towered by the historical Roman Aqueduct

 

  • Lunch will be at the beautiful Valle Reale Winery in Popoli, where you'll drink some of the most exclusive organic Abruzzo wines in stunning surroundings!

 

  • After returning to Villa Danilo, you'll partake in an evening pizza making class where you'll use a wood burning pizza oven and then eat your delicious creations for dinner

 

Thursday, May 7: Costa dei Trabocchi & Fish Masterclass

 

  • After breakfast, we'll say goodbye to Villa Danilo and take a lovely drive along the beautiful Abruzzo coast to the charming town of Fossacesia and its 12th Century Abbey of S. Giovanni in Venere overlooking the stunning Golfo di Venere and the oldest olive tree in Abruzzo

 

  • Today’s cooking class will be a fish masterclass.  You will be guided through the preparation of fine, yet simple, fish dishes…a tantalizing gastronomic experience

 

  • Time permitting, we will explore more of the Abruzzo coast as we head towards the coastal town of Ortona, a famous port village dating back to the Roman EmpireOrtona is home to Francesco Paolo Tosti, the Italian Composer who became Singing Master to the British Royal Family in 1880, Ortona features the Passeggiata Orientale, a lovely elevated stroll coasting the Adriatic Sea culminating with Ortona’s monumental military bastion, the Renaissance Aragonese Castle

 

  • 7:00 PM: Arrival back into Rome/End of Trip

    • Guests can be dropped off at either the central train station, your hotel or the airport
